Gezira Government Praises Savings Bank Initiative for War Impact Relief Financing

The Secretary-General of the Gezira State Government, Mortada Al-Bili, affirmed that normal life has been fully restored in Gezira State across most sectors, including cities, markets, and public institutions. Speaking at the reopening ceremony of the Savings and Social Development Bank branch in Wad Madani, Al-Bili praised the bank’s role in serving the community and financing families to rehabilitate their homes. He directed that the bank’s services be swiftly extended to all localities affected by the war.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the First Infantry Division, Major General Al-Rukn Al-Bahi Mirghani Al-Badawi, commended the return of the Savings Bank to Wad Madani. He stated that the Armed Forces savor their victories through the restoration of normal life and services for the ordinary citizens in cities and villages across Sudan, heralding the Armed Forces’ victories on all fronts.
In his speech, Dr. Ali Khalifa, Director-General of the Ministry of Finance in Gezira State, said the return of the Savings Bank to Wad Madani is part of the broader return of state institutions to their rightful places, emphasizing the vital role of banks in improving living conditions through financing.
Additionally, the Director of the Central Bank of Sudan branch in Wad Madani highlighted their early expectations for the return of the Savings Bank following the liberation of Wad Madani, given its importance among banks. He praised the initiative by the bank’s director to offer financing for the rehabilitation of infrastructure and essential government services with a social dimension.
In his address, Adil Omar Mohammed Abdullah, Manager of the Savings Bank branch in Wad Madani, stressed that the branch is ready to provide financing to serve citizens who lost their belongings and lifetime savings. He noted that the return of the branch aims to address the impacts of war on the people of Gezira, emphasizing that the bank is owned by the community and that serving society is a religious, national, ethical, and legal obligation, as stipulated in the bank’s regulations. Adil Omar also lauded the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, which made the revival of life in Wad Madani possible.
The reopening ceremony of the Wad Madani branch witnessed large public attendance, featuring performances by the military band and significant official participation. Attendees included the Deputy Chief Justice of the State, Justice Sami Al-Siddiq, the Minister of Social Welfare, Mr. Yasser Nassar, the Director-General of the Police Forces, Major General Abdelilah Ali Ahmed, the Director of Operations at the State’s Intelligence Service, Major General Abu Obeida Mirghani, the Secretary-General of the Zakat Chamber, Justice Issam Al-Din Musa Dafallah, the Agricultural Manager representing the Governor of the Gezira Project, Ali Ahmed Ibrahim, and the representative of the Executive Director of Greater Madani Locality, Majdi Hamza Al-Jack.
Crowds of Wad Madani residents flocked to witness the return of the Savings Bank, which has long been tied to the lives of the people of Gezira as the first bank headquartered outside Khartoum since its establishment in 1974 in Wad Madani.
