Conclusion of the Occupational Health and Safety Conference in Port Sudan

The first Occupational Health and Safety Conference for the year 2025 concluded yesterday evening in Port Sudan. The event was held at the Marina Hotel Hall from April 27 to 28 under the theme “Building a Culture of Prevention to Ensure a Safe Work Environment for All.” The conference was organized by the General Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety under the patronage of the Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, with the participation of several local and international officials and experts in the field of occupational health.

The conference featured the exchange of experiences and best practices at both local and international levels in the occupational health and safety sector. Several scientific papers were discussed, focusing on advancing the field and strengthening preventive measures in workplaces.

In his closing remarks, Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing the conference’s recommendations. He emphasized the importance of occupational health and the need to update the related laws and regulations. He also expressed gratitude to all participants, with special recognition to expert Victor Abdullah for his valuable contributions.

The conference’s recommendations included enhancing coordination among relevant entities such as the Supreme Council for Safety to incorporate all concerned bodies, unifying the occupational health and safety law at the federal level, centralizing the General Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety, and ensuring technical and administrative affiliation of state-level departments. They also called for the recruitment of specialized personnel in the field, continuous training for professionals, the implementation of HSE systems in reconstruction projects, and the involvement of entities such as the Ministry of Urban Planning and Investment.

Additionally, the recommendations called for the launch of ongoing awareness campaigns on HSE implementation in collaboration with civil defense, ports, and other stakeholders through various media platforms. They also emphasized joint efforts to address national issues related to occupational health and safety, such as unregulated mining.
