The High Committee for Voluntary Return in Northern State held a meeting today in Gold town, attended by the executive director and the local voluntary return committee. The meeting aimed to review the efforts and arrangements made by the local committee during the previous period.
The discussions covered the registration operations conducted in the shelters, including universities, schools, and government facilities. These included Al-Zubair Broomy Al-Bakri Dormitory, Gold Park Shelter, Musab Bin Umair School, and Mohammed Hussein’s site in Shabana Bahri, with a total of 191 individuals recorded.
The meeting approved Thursday as the date for the buses to begin the voluntary return journey to Khartoum State. The executive director of the locality, Abdelmajid Dehab, welcomed the visiting delegation from the state’s voluntary return committee.
He noted that a committee had been formed at the beginning of the crisis to register the newcomers and assess their needs. This committee was also tasked with identifying those willing to return voluntarily following the improved security situation in Gezira and Khartoum.
Major General Abdulrahman Faqiri, head of the state’s High Committee for Voluntary Return, stated that voluntary return is the second front in the dignity battle for securing and contributing to reconstruction.
He confirmed that the general voluntary return’s second phase would begin soon with the support of philanthropists, following the completion of the shelter stage.
The High Committee has committed to covering the full cost of the return process for the listed centers.
