Sudan Central Bank Sets Financing Cap for Farmers

The Central Bank of Sudan has set a financing cap for farmers at approximately SDG 8 million per farmer.
Ibrahim Mostafa, Governor of the Gezira Scheme, continues to attract financing partners to engage with farmers in contractual partnerships for the upcoming agricultural season, which covers over 100,000 feddans for crops like cotton, sorghum, soybeans, and peanuts.
A joint meeting was held in Barakat between the Gezira Scheme administration, Irada Company, and farmers’ representatives from various sections of the project. The meeting was chaired by Agricultural Administration Director Eng. Ali Ahmed Ibrahim, with the attendance of Professor Adel Mohamed Saleh (representing the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development), Omar Taha Al-Bashir (National Coordinator for Agricultural and Livestock Production Professions), Salim Mokhtar (Gezira Sector Director at the Agricultural Bank), Amani Taj Al-Sir from the Central Bank, and other key figures.
Ali Ahmed Ibrahim affirmed his department’s readiness to provide technical services in guidance, protection, and implementation of modern technologies, with full compliance with the agricultural cycle and technical standards, as well as follow-up on the Abu Ashreen well-drilling project.
Professor Adel Saleh stressed the importance of moving beyond traditional production methods through the Agricultural Transformation Platforms initiative, which aims to train and qualify farmers to adopt modern technologies, increase productivity, engage in agro-industries, and explore export opportunities to enhance farmers’ revenues.
Omar Taha Al-Bashir called for speeding up the formation of professional organizations for agricultural and livestock production to facilitate financing processes. Legal advisor Mawlana Badawi Babiker Al-Fadl urged farmers to organize themselves and prepare to elect their representatives at all levels to address their issues and increase returns.
Irada Company representatives confirmed their readiness to provide the necessary financing for agricultural inputs for the summer season, in line with the Central Bank’s financing cap of SDG 8 million per farmer.
Farmers raised several questions regarding irrigation, financing, and marketing, calling for swift and simplified financing procedures and ensuring sufficient funding before the start of the new season.
