Tottenham Captain Son to Miss Europa League Semi-Final First Leg

South Korean striker Son Heung-min will miss his English club Tottenham’s match against Norway’s Bodø/Glimt on Thursday in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, according to his Australian coach Ange Postecoglou on Wednesday.

The Tottenham captain has not played since the 1–1 draw against Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt on April 10 due to a foot injury.

Last week, Postecoglou expressed hope that the South Korean forward could return in time to help the North London club in the second-tier European competition, behind the Champions League.

He said on Wednesday, on the eve of the match: “He won’t be playing tomorrow evening. He’s training, but still not with the group. He’s improving, and I hope he’ll return soon.”

Son has scored 11 goals in 43 appearances this season, but hasn’t scored from open play since January 23.

Tottenham suffered their 19th defeat in a disappointing Premier League campaign with a crushing 5–1 loss to champions Liverpool last Sunday at Anfield.
