Gunfire Exchange Between Militia Elements in Nyala

Eyewitnesses in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, reported a clash between elements of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and a joint militia force working to combat illegal activities, which resulted in tension and gunfire near the former Qadara Market.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to “Darfur24,” the joint force—comprised of federal police and RSF members—conducted a campaign targeting street vendors and traders who had returned to Qadara Market, which had previously been closed by order of the authorities.

One witness, who asked to remain anonymous, reported that members of the joint force raided restaurants and cafes, confiscated goods, and looted belongings from individuals present, beating some with batons.

Other witnesses mentioned that the same force attempted to chase some tea sellers in the Qadara Market area, but another force confronted them, leading to an exchange of gunfire and the injury of a member of the responding force.

The incident escalated tensions between the two forces until the state police director, Abdulrazek Al-Obaid, intervened to calm the situation.

He pledged to cover the medical costs of the injured soldier and to compensate for stolen mobile devices and fuel taken from members of the joint force.
