Sudan’s representative to the African Union, Ambassador Al-Zain Ibrahim Hussein, affirmed that the Sudanese government possesses strong evidence of continued significant external support to the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. He stated that the United Arab Emirates is at the forefront of these supporting parties, facilitating aerial transport through regional airports such as Amjaras Airport in Chad and the Bosaso military base in Somalia, followed by land routes from Chad and other neighboring points into Sudanese territory.
Speaking at the 38th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Banjul, The Gambia, Ambassador Al-Zain emphasized Sudan’s commitment to pursuing international justice, applying national legal mechanisms, and submitting reports to the United Nations via the Security Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
He noted that the national committee investigating crimes and violations of national and international humanitarian law, along with various independent international bodies, had concluded that the RSF committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and acts of genocide — pointing to atrocities in El Geneina, the Massalit people in West Darfur, and ongoing violations around El Fasher and IDP camps such as Zamzam, Abu Shouk, Al-Jazirah, and other regions in Sudan. He also referenced the recent civilian massacre committed by the RSF in western Omdurman.
Ambassador Al-Zain further stated that the RSF had committed the crime of mercenarism by recruiting foreign mercenaries from over 13 countries — some from neighboring regions and others from distant parts of the world, including countries outside the African continent.
