The Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations in Sudan, Sheldon Yett, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the United Nations will remain in the country and that its various agencies will continue to carry out their duties and will not leave, contrary to what some news outlets have reported.
During his meeting with Ambassador Idris Ismail, the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at his office, the UN representative stated that these organizations are here to serve civilians and will not abandon them while they are in need of their services.
The Acting Undersecretary provided the UN Resident Representative with a briefing on the UAE aggression against the country, including the latest attacks on key sites in the city of Port Sudan.
According to the Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary affirmed to the UN official that the situation is under control and that Port Sudan Airport has resumed operations.
