The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, condemned the drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in Port Sudan.
IGAD expressed its deep concern and unequivocal condemnation of the recent drone attacks targeting vital infrastructure and civilian areas in Port Sudan.
In a statement on Thursday, Gebeyehu stated that these violent actions pose a serious threat to civilian lives and threaten to exacerbate an already deteriorating humanitarian and political situation.
He added, “These attacks on civilian infrastructure are unacceptable and must stop immediately,” and continued, “Port Sudan has long been a vital humanitarian and logistical lifeline for millions of Sudanese. Any attack on this vital center exacerbates human suffering and hinders the delivery of urgent aid.”
The Executive Secretary of IGAD reaffirmed the organization’s strong commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese crisis.
He urged all parties to cease hostilities without delay and engage in inclusive and constructive dialogue, emphasizing IGAD’s commitment, along with all stakeholders, to support efforts aimed at protecting civilians and maintaining regional stability.
