Gezira State Governor: The Success of the Agricultural Season is a Strategic Goal for the State Government

Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair, Governor of Gezira State, announced his government’s commitment to overcoming the obstacles hindering the rehabilitation and maintenance of the irrigation system in the Gezira Project.
During his meeting today at the Ministry of Irrigation headquarters in Wad Madani with Engineer Daw Al-Bait Abdul Rahman, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, the governor stressed the importance of joint efforts between the state government, the Gezira Project administration, the Ministry of Irrigation, and farmers to secure food for the Sudanese people and support the national economy through exports. He emphasized the need for phased plans and programs, and for utilizing water harvesting projects by establishing large reservoirs and addressing irrigation canal breaches, affirming that the success of the agricultural season is a strategic objective for the state government.
For his part, the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources assured farmers that water is available throughout the main network from the Sennar Dam to the farthest point of the Gezira Project, covering a length of 220 kilometers. He pointed to the efforts being made to address water issues from the upper to the lower irrigation network.
He also highlighted his ministry’s plan to strengthen the partnership with the state government, the Gezira Project administration, and the farmers, while identifying and addressing the breaches—which have exceeded 1,200—by mobilizing and providing the necessary machinery through the General Authority for Irrigation and Excavation Works, the National Drilling and Investment Company, and the Sudanese-Egyptian Company.
He noted that brick kilns pose a threat to the gravity-fed irrigation system and announced that in the coming days, pump issues in Wad Al-Fadl and Haddaf will be resolved following the operation of the Al-Junaid station in the eastern section.
