Minister of Irrigation Reaffirms Commitment to Overcoming Obstacles Facing Water Flow from the Upper Network

This morning, Eng. Daw Al-Beit Abdel Rahman, Acting Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, accompanied by several ministry officials, began a visit to the irrigation sections in South Gezira. The tour included inspecting the repair of the breach at Al-Sharif Mokhtar’s canal at kilometer 12, where 24,000 cubic meters of soil were used for backfilling.

The Minister also inspected the ongoing cleaning of the Al-Shuwal major canal, the removal of islands, weeds, and trees, as well as the reinforcement of embankments. He further reviewed the progress of work at the Al-Hoyowa major canal at kilometer 57, and at sluices 77 and 99.

The Minister reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to overcoming all obstacles hindering the water flow from the upper network. He assured the farming sectors of the continued flow of irrigation water through the upper networks and confirmed the maintenance, rehabilitation, and installation of all regulators and gates, as well as the flow of water through the lower drains after cultivation.

He emphasized the necessity of removing all brick kilns located along the canal edges and taking legal action against violators. He noted that the purpose of the visit was to monitor the repair of breaches, reinforcement of embankments, removal of islands, weeds, trees, and silt, as well as the maintenance of gates and regulators.
