North Kordofan Agriculture Minister Affirms Early Preparation for the 2025 Agricultural Season

Engineer Ibrahim Hamid, Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in North Kordofan and Acting Minister, revealed the ministry’s early preparation for the 2025 agricultural season. He stated that the ministry’s plan had been submitted to the federal ministry and organizations since February.

Speaking at a Sudan News Agency forum held today in the Ministry’s conference hall in El-Obeid — the industrial capital for 2025 — he highlighted the ministry’s strategic five-year plan. He mentioned that the cultivated area for this season would cover 7 million feddans across all localities, with 50% allocated to food security crops and 50% to cash crops. He noted that in the previous season, 5.8 million feddans were cultivated due to the exclusion of mechanized agriculture amid the war.

Engineer Hamid outlined the new season’s plan, which includes improved seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and the rehabilitation of agricultural machinery and equipment.

He noted that contracts would be signed with several organizations to provide agricultural inputs. He also announced the availability of over 200,000 tons of improved seeds in ministry warehouses. Regarding financing, the minister said there was an agreement with financing institutions in the state to support small farmers in villages and rural areas. He emphasized that a comprehensive guidance plan had been developed for farmers and that a Higher Committee had been formed to ensure the success of the agricultural season, comprising all relevant parties.

Regarding El-Obeid as the industrial capital of Sudan, the Minister confirmed that all preparations had been completed. He said the selection of El-Obeid was due to its industrial potential and infrastructure, and the promotion of investments. He stressed the importance of maintaining and operating state factories and noted that the industrial sector aims to target rural areas before urban ones, encouraging reverse migration from cities to the countryside and transforming rural populations from consumers to producers.

Specialized department directors from the Ministry of Production presented both the strategic plan and the 2025 action plan in their respective fields, highlighting the importance of increasing productivity and developing the agricultural, industrial, mining, and livestock sectors to improve individual income and national production.
