Gedarif State’s Ministry of Production Explores Ways to Support Smallholder Farmers

Engineer Ammar Abdullah Suleiman, Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in Gedarif State, stressed the need for coordinated efforts between government institutions and organizations working in the agricultural field to support smallholder farmers and achieve sustainable development in the state.

This came during his meeting with a delegation from the Norwegian Refugee Council, headed by Mr. Abdel Hafiz Faragallah Abdel Rahim, Livelihoods and Food Security Program Coordinator. The two sides discussed ways to cooperate in developing the agricultural sector and boosting productivity in rural communities.

During the meeting, Mr. Abdel Hafiz presented the programs and projects planned for implementation in coordination with the ministry. These initiatives aim to improve the capacities of small-scale producers in several areas, including technical support, training, and the provision of agricultural inputs. He emphasized the importance of sustainable interventions based on the needs of local communities.

For his part, Engineer Ammar highlighted the vast agricultural potential of Gedarif State, which requires intensive efforts to provide technical and logistical support. He noted that the ministry has begun preparing an indicative plan for the upcoming agricultural season, taking into account the challenges of the rainy season and the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.

The Director General also stressed the need to ensure fair distribution of projects across the state’s localities, based on the priorities and needs of each area. He confirmed the ministry’s intention to hold a broad coordination meeting with all organizations and partners to unify efforts and determine intervention priorities that will achieve tangible results in strengthening food security and agricultural development.
