Modern mining companies have resumed their operations in South Kordofan State after a period of suspension due to previous disputes with local communities.
Worsha Nasser Worsha, Director of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company in the state, confirmed that the companies now operating possess official contracts with the Ministry of Minerals and that their resumption of operations is backed by broad community consensus.
He explained that over 50 companies have commenced work and were directed to complete procedures related to processing mining waste accumulated since 2010, noting that this waste contains high concentrations of valuable minerals.
The Director urged concession and small-scale mining companies to invest in South Kordofan, emphasizing that the local community is now fully prepared to engage positively with mining activities. He added that production areas are witnessing stable security, which strengthens the investment climate.
It’s worth noting that the General Director of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Mohamed Tahir Omar, had previously instructed the executive office to remove obstacles hindering company entry into South Kordofan to support efforts to increase production, maximize revenues, and activate community responsibility projects in the state to strengthen partnerships with local communities and contribute to sustainable development.
