Setting a Date for Resumption of Al-Gunaid Sugar Factory Operations

The Acting Minister of Industry, Mohasen Ali Yaqoub, and the Governor of Al-Jazirah State, Al-Taher Ibrahim Al-Khair, confirmed that the rehabilitation works for the Al-Gunaid Sugar Project and Factory are progressing well in preparation for resuming operations and production.

The minister, the governor, and several officials conducted a field visit to the project, where they reviewed the general situation and the progress of rehabilitation efforts, as well as assessed the needs and obstacles in order to address them for the resumption of operations.

In a press statement, the Minister of Industry noted that the factory had suffered infrastructure damage at the hands of the rebel militia, emphasizing the strong determination to overcome this destruction. She indicated that maintenance work at the project’s irrigation station is nearly complete.

The Governor of Al-Jazirah affirmed that the rehabilitation efforts are proceeding effectively and that significant efforts have been made to restore and repair the damage. He noted that the reactivation of the Gunaid irrigation water station and water pumping would greatly benefit the residents around the factory and facilitate the full normalization of daily life in the region.

He announced the state government’s commitment to providing all possible support to accelerate the revival of the Al-Gunaid Sugar Project and Factory.

For his part, the Acting Director of the Sudanese Sugar Company, Jad Al-Rab Khalid, explained that sugarcane production requires two years, starting with seed cultivation. Regarding the factory, he stated that preparations would be completed within six months.
