Plan to Expand Petroleum Product Pipeline Network

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has unveiled a plan to expand petroleum product pipeline capacity from 3,000 tons to 9,000 tons per day. The plan includes maintenance work at Haya, Al-Jaili, and Madani depots, and the imminent reactivation of the Al-Jaili oil refinery to meet the country’s daily demand of 10,000 tons of petroleum products.

Engineer Mohamed Saleh, representing the Minister of Energy, stated during a consultative meeting between the ministry and state-level transport and petroleum administrations that the ongoing projects aim to secure fuel supply in the White Nile and Al-Jazirah states. He added that other projects are in progress to ensure oil product availability across all states, including the expansion of the pipeline and provision of large tankers for transportation.

He explained that petroleum facilities in Port Sudan were severely affected by militia protests, which will impact the transportation of fuel products and require tight coordination to ensure steady supply to the states.

Saleh also emphasized the importance of coordination between transport administrations at this stage, particularly following the shutdown of the Khartoum oil refinery, which used to provide 60% of the nation’s needs. He noted that reliance on imports places a heavy burden on the transportation sector across all states.
