“Gum Arabic Division”: 111 Million Sudanese Pounds Spent to Support the Sector

The Director of the National Forestry Authority in North Kordofan State, Mohamed Idris, stated that the ongoing war in the country has had a significant impact on the forestry sector, particularly through indiscriminate logging of high-value economic species, leading to severe depletion. He emphasized that this situation requires the concerted efforts of stakeholders to address the consequences.
Meanwhile, Engineer Mohamed Babiker, representing the Gum Arabic Exporters Division, revealed during a training workshop on sustainable management of gum arabic—titled “Opportunities and Challenges”—organized on Tuesday by the Gum Arabic and Desertification Research Institute at the University of Kordofan, that the division has spent nearly 111 million Sudanese pounds to support the gum arabic sector. He pointed out that the sector faces challenges in production, marketing, and export that require objective solutions. He stressed the importance and economic value of gum arabic.
For his part, Hisham Bashir Al-Obeid, representative of the Secretary-General of the North Kordofan State Government Secretariat, said that the workshop comes at a critical time, given the economic significance of gum arabic and the extensive damage it has suffered due to the war. He underscored the importance of reaching a scientific vision for stakeholders to develop the sector and add value that benefits both the state and citizens.
