The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in Sennar State, Mohamed Abdel Fattah Badi, revealed that humanitarian organizations have been directed to support farmers and assist the agricultural season, stressing that agriculture is the only way out and the fundamental path toward stability and development.
During his meeting with Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Tiben, Director of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Sudan, the commissioner stated that Sennar State is rich in natural resources that require proper utilization and optimal investment.
Badi confirmed that the meeting was part of preparations for the upcoming agricultural season.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Tiben revealed the organization’s plan to distribute improved seeds to 100,000 small-scale farmers, including 1,000 tons of crop seeds and 50 tons of vegetable seeds.
He also announced FAO’s intention to provide 30 farmers with solar energy units as part of the preparations for the new season.
Tiben noted that these projects will be implemented through several national organizations. He explained that FAO is working to localize seed cultivation by planting 180 acres as demonstration farms for small farmers, under the supervision of the Agricultural Research Corporation and the National Committee for Improved Seeds.
The project targets the localities of Al-Suki and Al-Dinder.
