Fishing and Livestock Trade Regulations in Northern State

Dr. Al-Tayeb Habib Allah, Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Animal and Fish Resources and Pastures in Northern State, issued a number of administrative and regulatory decisions concerning the animal and fish resources sector, aimed at enhancing health and veterinary standards and protecting natural resources.

The first decision prohibits families—particularly women and children—from residing at fishing sites in the state, especially along the shores of Lake Nubia, Lake Merowe, and the Nile River. This is in line with freshwater fishing health requirements and aims to protect the environment from pollutants and zoonotic diseases, while also maintaining general fish veterinary health.

The decision allows only licensed fishermen to be present in these areas, provided they carry valid fishing licenses issued by the council.

A second decision requires compliance with veterinary health regulations when bringing animals into the state for trade, breeding, or sacrificial purposes. It prohibits the entry of animals into the state—or from one locality to another—without a valid veterinary health certificate issued by the nearest fixed veterinary unit (veterinary hospital, clinic, station, or checkpoint at crossings or livestock markets). The certificate must confirm that the animals are free of epidemic diseases.

The decision also mandates quarantine procedures for violators and the issuance of appropriate certificates, applying disease-free zone laws, livestock routes, and veterinary monitoring stations.

In a related context, Dr. Al-Tayeb Habib Allah issued a third decision enforcing mandatory veterinary inspections and health certificates for animal, fish, and feed products.

The decision bans the entry or exit of any such products without health certificates proving their compliance with technical standards and health regulations, to be issued by the nearest veterinary unit or checkpoint within the state, especially concerning poultry and fish and their products.

It also states that broiler chickens must bear the label of the Higher Council for Animal and Fish Resources and Pastures.
