FAO Plans to Implement New Agricultural Projects in Northern State

During a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Governor of Northern State, Major General Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid Ibrahim, affirmed his government’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities to enable the organization to implement its programs, which would support agricultural production and achieve food security in the region.

The delegation reviewed the organization’s upcoming plans and interventions in the state during the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in Northern State explained that FAO intends to implement a number of development projects, including the provision of around 100 solar energy units and 30 tons of maize seeds, benefiting about 4,000 farmers, in addition to vegetable seeds for approximately 7,000 farmers.

He also highlighted the organization’s plans to distribute Egyptian fava bean and vegetable seeds for the winter season, as well as to launch a project to improve crop productivity, rehabilitate irrigation channels, and enhance seed production.

Kheiri praised the organization’s efforts and previous interventions in supporting smallholder farmers in the state, emphasizing the importance of continued partnership to promote agricultural development and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
