SDG 19 Billion for Fall Emergency in Al Jazirah State

The Civil Defense Chamber in Al Jazirah State, in its meeting on Saturday chaired by the Governor of Al Jazirah State, Al-Taher Ibrahim Al-Khair, approved the 2025 Fall Emergency Plan with a total cost of SDG 19 billion.
The Governor emphasized the necessity of implementing the plan, initiating discussions with White Nile State regarding the “syphons,” and providing urgent support to localities to commence execution. He also called for learning from past experiences in relocating villages affected by floods and rainwater, and for expanding water harvesting projects by establishing reservoirs.
Meanwhile, Abubakr Abdullah, Acting Minister and Director General of the Ministry of Urban Planning and Public Utilities, announced the completion of the formation of civil defense chambers in localities and administrative units, along with the identification of vulnerable areas and the compilation of all necessary requirements. He indicated that this year’s plan is based on analysis of reports from previous years, scientific forecasts for the upcoming season, and activating partnerships between relevant entities through the Higher Committee. He also stressed the importance of early preparation before the rainy season as a preventive measure to avoid damages and disasters. Furthermore, he urged the Ministry of Irrigation to intervene quickly to fix canal breaches in Al Jazirah, and appealed to citizens to stay away from flood-prone areas and waterways.
Major General of Police Mohammed Al-Amin Al-Naeem, Director of the Civil Defense Police in the state, called for intensifying efforts on protective embankments, providing machinery to implement the plan, conducting preemptive visits to areas expected to be affected by rising Nile levels, rains, or floods, reinforcing checkpoints along the Blue Nile and Rahad River, and increasing awareness and guidance campaigns.
Engineer Abdulaziz Abdulrahim Al-Siddiq, representative of the Ministry of Irrigation, announced the continued maintenance and repair of major canal breaches, affirming coordination between his ministry and the Gezira Scheme administration to ensure water supply. He also urged farmers to manage and control the “Abu Ashreenat” irrigation intakes.
