Al-Rahad Agricultural Project Suffers $65 Million in Losses

Al-Taher Ibrahim Al-Khair, Governor of Al-Jazirah State, has called for a scientific and practical vision to address the problems of the Al-Rahad Agricultural Project, with the participation of relevant stakeholders.

During a meeting in his office this morning with a delegation from the Al-Rahad Agricultural Authority, headed by the Director General, Engineer Atef Mahmoud, the governor announced his donation of 30 barrels of diesel fuel to help resolve irrigation issues in the project. He emphasized the importance of sharing responsibilities and working collaboratively.

For his part, the Director General of the Authority revealed that project losses have exceeded $65 million. He appealed to the state government to intervene in solving electricity problems, clearing irrigation channels in Section 10, and contributing to the maintenance of machinery. He noted that the total area of the project is 353,000 feddans, which require 2 million cubic meters of water.

Professor Abdel Azim Abdel Bagi, head of the Al-Rahad Farmers’ Organization, stated that 68% of the project area lies in Al-Jazirah State and 32% in Gedaref State. He called for the rehabilitation of Mina pumping stations, the provision of a stable electricity supply, strengthening of Major 8, and addressing vulnerable areas to prevent flooding of digital villages.
