Khartoum State Governor, Ahmed Othman Hamza, met with a delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP), led by Country Director Laurent Loup, to discuss several issues related to the programme’s operations in the state. The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Social Development, Siddig Farini; the Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Al-Tayeb Saad Al-Din; and the Commissioner for Voluntary and Humanitarian Work in the state, Khaled Abdel Rahim.

The discussion covered mutual cooperation and coordination efforts in delivering aid following the opening of the organization’s permanent headquarters in Khartoum. The Governor expressed appreciation for the efforts made in the past period and the support provided to those affected by the war. He stated that the new WFP office would help address challenges more effectively on the ground.

The Governor urged the international support to go beyond food aid and include contributions toward rebuilding public services that can help stabilize citizens’ lives. He also called for a renewed needs assessment in light of changes following the state’s stabilization and the return of many citizens to their homes, including the expected return of those currently residing in shelters.

The WFP Country Director emphasized the need for assistance during this phase of return for many families and affirmed the intention to invite donors to provide additional support, given the scale of the current needs.
