Gezira Scheme Targets Cultivation of 6,000 Feddans of Sorghum in Al-Housh Section Under FAO Program

Acting Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Engineer Ali Ahmed Ibrahim, today inspected the preparations of land for summer crop cultivation in the Al-Housh section, carried out by the Agricultural Engineering Department of the Gezira Scheme. The activities fall within the FAO program, funded by the Qatar Fund for Development, which aims to support agricultural and livestock development, as well as training for farmers, women, and youth in the Al-Housh section.
The governor announced that around 6,000 feddans are targeted for sorghum cultivation under the FAO program. He indicated that the Gezira Scheme Administration has deployed additional agricultural engineering machinery to complete land preparation within the recommended timeframes.
Meanwhile, Engineer Tawfiq Bashir from the Information Technology Unit stated that increased efforts and daily productivity reflect the revival of agricultural engineering and its legacy in enhancing performance. He noted that the program’s success would support its expansion to other locations within the project.
Engineer Mohammed Majd Al-Din from the Agricultural Engineering Department expressed his appreciation for the project’s senior management for overcoming all challenges faced by workers in land preparation in the Al-Housh section, enabling further achievements.
Farmers, in turn, affirmed their readiness to make the program a success and achieve high productivity, thanks to the effective land preparation by the Agricultural Engineering Department of the Gezira Scheme and the use and application of modern technologies.
