Understandings with International Entities to Complete Maintenance of Khartoum Refinery

Knowledgeable sources have reported that maintenance operations are ongoing at the Al-Jaili Refinery, north of the capital Khartoum, with expectations for full operation to resume within six months to one year, potentially improving the country’s fuel supply, according to Ultra Sudan.

A source in the energy sector stated that work on the maintenance and reconstruction of the Al-Jaili Refinery has not stopped since it was regained in February 2025 by national staff.

The source confirmed that the maintenance plans are progressing well under the supervision of local experts, and noted that the Sudanese government is working on reaching agreements with international parties experienced in the oil industry to help complete the refinery’s repairs.

The source added, “Oil facilities damaged by war typically take about a year to return to operation due to the extent of the damage.” The Sudanese Ministry of Energy stated that the losses caused by the Rapid Support Forces’ control of the refinery are estimated in the tens of millions of dollars, impacting the largest oil facility in the country.
