A source familiar with the ongoing consultations in the temporary administrative capital, Port Sudan, revealed plans to form four to five commissions in an effort to reduce the number of ministries in the upcoming government.
According to the source, as reported by Sudan Tribune, Jibril Ibrahim, leader of the Justice and Equality Movement, is expected to be assigned a sovereign ministry, while consultations continue regarding the remaining ministerial portfolios.
The source confirmed that the number of ministers will be reduced, and noted a proposal to merge some ministries and establish councils and commissions to carry out the responsibilities of certain ministries.
He also pointed to the possibility that the current Central Bank governor may remain in his position, and mentioned that the current ministers nominated by the army could retain their posts.
The proposed mergers and the formation of committees and councils are reportedly still under study.
