Gedaref Governor Orders Tightened Oversight on Gold Smuggling

The Acting Governor of Gedaref State, Lieutenant General Mohamed Ahmed Hassan Idris, emphasized the importance of increasing production and actively promoting mining zones due to their significant role in boosting revenues. He stressed the need for strict adherence to environmental and security standards.

While chairing the state security committee meeting at the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company headquarters—attended by the Director-General of the Ministry of Finance and members of the security committee—the governor directed the relevant authorities to intensify monitoring at entry and exit points to prevent the smuggling of gold and “karta” (gold-rich soil) outside the state.

The meeting reviewed the performance report of the company for the first half of the current year, assessed the status of mining companies operating in the Butana and Gola’a El-Nahl localities, and discussed efforts to increase production and improve services provided to local communities as part of corporate social responsibility programs. The governor also listened to reports from company department heads on achievements and challenges faced during the reporting period.

In turn, Omar Malik Abu-Sin, Director of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company office in Gedaref, expressed his gratitude to the governor, the Minister of Finance, and the security committee members, praising their continued support for the company’s projects and programs in the state.
