Meetings Between Juba Agreement Parties and Al-Burhan to Settle the Issue of Partnership

The head of the Sudan Liberation Movement and general supervisor of the Joint Force, Minni Arko Minnawi, revealed that intensive meetings were held over the past two days in Port Sudan with the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Army, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to discuss the future of the partnership.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune, Minnawi said, “We have not discussed power-sharing quotas yet; we believed it was important to first settle the issue of the partnership.”

Minnawi indicated that the meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Juba Agreement, but added, “The ball is now in their court.”

He defended their efforts to preserve the partnership as outlined in the Juba Agreement, saying, “Discussing matters of governance and power-sharing as stipulated in the agreements is at the heart of the political struggle we undertook and for which we paid a heavy price,” adding, “This is nothing to be ashamed of.”

He continued, “We are at a stage where the partnership must be settled—without a partnership, any talk about power-sharing is meaningless.”
