Sudan has renewed its call on the international community, including all its organizations and states, to exert more pressure on the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its regional sponsor. Sudan urged the classification of the RSF as a terrorist group and the imposition of sanctions on it and its sponsor in order to compel them to comply with the will of the international community, in the interest of preserving regional peace and security.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Sudan viewed the statement by the UN Security Council on Tuesday—which strongly condemned the attack on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in Birao, which resulted in the death of a peacekeeper during the execution of their duties—as a confirmation of Sudan’s longstanding warnings about the increasing danger posed by the militia’s criminal behavior and its blatant disregard for international norms.
The Security Council members expressed concern over the growing number of attacks on peacekeeping forces in the Central African Republic, clearly pointing to systematic incursions by elements of the terrorist RSF militia in support of rebel armed groups in the region. The militia has shown complete disregard for calls and resolutions issued by regional and international bodies, most notably the UN Security Council. The terrorist militia’s actions are now extending to threaten the security and stability of Sudan’s neighbors and the broader region.
