Irrigation Ministry Undersecretary Announces Pumping of 16 Million Cubic Meters of Water in Gezira Scheme

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, Engineer Daw-Al-Bait Abdel-Rahman, paid a field tour on Wednesday to several irrigation divisions in the Gezira and Al-Managil Scheme.
The minister checked on the water levels in the main irrigation canals, including Al-Maturi, Wad Al-Mansi, Al-Fakhakhir, and 131 Shawwal divisions in Al-Managil.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation announced, in a statement to SUNA, that the visit aimed to assess the flow of irrigation water in the canals after the start of water pumping on June 1st of this year as part of the new agricultural season, stating that 16 million cubic meters were pumped.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Irrigation confirmed that his ministry would work to increase the amount of water in the canals according to the targeted agricultural areas. He stated that the irrigation canals suffered significant damage during the period of the incursion of the Dagalo family’s rebel militias into Gezira State, pointing to the remediation work carried out during the previous period. He emphasized the continuation of remediation operations, especially in the peripheral areas that require interventions and the clearing of silt and weeds from the canals.
For his part, the Director General of Irrigation Operations, Engineer Mufadal Al-Tayib, explained that the visit was to monitor irrigation operations for the summer season, which began last April.
He confirmed that bridge reinforcement work is 93% complete, and that repairs are currently underway.
He stated that increasing the water level in the irrigation canals is being done according to the targeted areas, indicating that the Ministry of Irrigation is working to increase the number of mechanisms to expedite cleaning and silt removal operations. He reassured farmers that water would be available to all agricultural areas throughout the project.
