Ministers of Defense and Interior Sworn in Before Al-Burhan

On Saturday, Lieutenant General Hassan Daoud Kayan was sworn in as Minister of Defense, and Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa as Minister of Interior, before the President of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Transitional Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris, Secretary-General of the Sovereignty Council Lieutenant General Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghali Ali Youssef, and the Chief Judge of the Red Sea State representing the Chief Justice.

In a press statement, Defense Minister Hassan Daoud Kayan expressed deep appreciation to the country’s leadership for entrusting him with the defense portfolio. He noted that Sudan is going through difficult times that require unity to preserve its territorial integrity.

He affirmed his commitment to achieving security, stability, peace, and defending Sudan’s sovereignty. “We will work in coordination with all state institutions to achieve Sudan’s national goals and meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people,” he said.

He added, “We assure the Sudanese people that we will be a trustworthy hand safeguarding the unity of the country. We will strive to establish rule of law and hold anyone who fails in their duties accountable,” stressing the importance of national unity to build Sudan.

He praised the sacrifices and bravery of the Armed Forces, joint forces, mobilized troops, and the popular resistance in defending the nation’s soil and sovereignty.

The Defense Minister stressed the need to achieve peace, security, and stability to drive the country’s desired development. He affirmed that the Armed Forces will work to fill security gaps, protect Sudan’s economy, and safeguard the country’s gains.

For his part, Interior Minister Babiker Samra Mustafa noted that Sudan is facing security challenges, but affirmed the state’s ability to overcome them. He praised the victories achieved by the Armed Forces and their supporting units, adding that the military is capable of defeating and eliminating terrorist militias.

He also highlighted the Ministry of Interior’s upcoming role in ensuring security and providing services to citizens, noting that an emergency security plan will be implemented to assert state authority and the rule of law.
