The General Directorate of Urban Water in North Darfur has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of destroying and sabotaging water sources and supply lines west of El Fasher.
Khalid Ishaq, Director of the General Directorate of Urban Water, told “Darfur24” that after the RSF overran villages in the Shaqra and Golo areas last January, they destroyed water sources and almost entirely sabotaged supply lines, worsening the suffering of residents in El Fasher.
Ishaq noted that the RSF targeted tanks and wells in Shaqra Al-Qoz, Shaqra Al-Wadi, and the Golo reservoir. They disabled the pumps, cut the supply lines, and bulldozed the main pipelines that deliver water to El Fasher.
He added that the General Directorate had recently managed to operate four wells using solar power in Shaqra to alleviate the burden on residents, but unfortunately, the same forces stole the solar panels and operating systems, causing the station to shut down.
Khalid also pointed out that the main water station in the Awlad Al-Reef neighborhood was also targeted, leading to the shutdown of the city’s main drainage systems.
He stated that the RSF militia, stationed at the Golo reservoir, is responsible for shelling civilians in El Fasher in recent days.
Ishaq confirmed that the destruction of water sources, the cutting of supply lines, and the targeting of the main water station have completely halted water services in El Fasher, noting that private wells are the only thing easing the residents’ suffering.
