The Special Advisor to the U.S. President for African Affairs, Massad Boulos, affirmed that the conflict in Sudan is “unique in its kind,” as it is primarily an internal struggle rather than one between two countries. He described it as the world’s largest humanitarian disaster, where aid is not reaching those in need.
In an exclusive interview with The Africa Report, Boulos responded to a question about the role of economic incentives in bridging the gap between the head of the army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the leader of the Rapid Support Forces militia, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), by saying that economic dimensions are always present, but the conflict in Sudan is fundamentally a power struggle, not one over economic resources.
