Authorities in North Kordofan State announced on Friday that at least one person was killed and others injured in an artillery shelling carried out by the RSF militia on the city of El-Obeid.
Late Thursday night, the RSF launched a large barrage of artillery shells toward the northern neighborhoods of El-Obeid. Most of the shells landed in the Karima neighborhood, causing widespread destruction to several homes.
Mohamed Ismail, the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in North Kordofan, told Sudan Tribune that “the artillery shelling on El-Obeid resulted in at least one fatality and multiple injuries.”
He explained that the highly explosive shells landed near a camp housing thousands of people displaced by the war, who are currently sheltering inside El-Obeid.
The official strongly condemned the militia’s continued targeting of residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure in the North Kordofan capital, describing it as a violation of international laws.
