A high-level delegation led by Dr. Mohieldin Naeem, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, along with the Acting Director General of the Sudanese Electricity Company and the directors general of the various electricity companies, conducted a comprehensive inspection visit on Saturday to several transmission, distribution, and thermal power stations in Khartoum State. The purpose of the visit was to assess the scale of destruction inflicted on the electricity infrastructure by the actions of the rebel militias and to follow up on the ongoing rehabilitation and maintenance operations.

The field visit included the Military College distribution station, the Mogran station, the Martyr Dr. Mahmoud Sharif thermal station, and the Abd Jaafar distribution station. The delegation reviewed the extensive damage caused by the rebel militia and praised the significant efforts exerted by maintenance teams and sector workers to restore power to affected areas.

During the visit, the Undersecretary held intensive meetings at the work sites and received detailed reports on progress and the challenges facing the maintenance teams. He stressed the urgency of accelerating the pace of work to ensure the swift return of electricity supply, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing service lines and residential neighborhoods, and resolving all administrative issues faced by workers to boost productivity.

In a statement, the Director General of the Electricity Transmission Company expressed gratitude to the sector’s workers for their tremendous efforts, affirming that they are doing everything possible to restore the power grid, fully understanding the vital need to provide electricity for citizens and to support reconstruction efforts. He also thanked the Undersecretary for his visit and ongoing support.

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum commended the electricity sector workers and extended his appreciation for their sincere national efforts, emphasizing that their role is no less important than that of the armed forces in defeating the enemy and restoring peace, security, and reconstruction in the country. He noted the magnitude of the destruction and called on citizens to support the effort by rationalizing electricity use and avoiding illegal hookups (“Jabadat”).

He also urged both the public and private sectors to actively participate in rebuilding the electricity sector, emphasizing that providing the necessary resources would greatly help reduce the dark zones across the country.
