Ministry of Industry and Trade Emphasizes Enforcement of Import Regulations

Minister of Industry and Trade, Mahasen Ali Yaqoub, confirmed the ministry’s full commitment to enforcing ministerial regulations governing foreign trade. She emphasized the importance of applying controls over import operations to help regulate and monitor the entry of goods, services, and production inputs into the Sudanese market.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, the Minister stated that the regulations aim to meet domestic demand while protecting consumers, supporting local production, ensuring public and environmental health, and enforcing quality standards for imported goods.

The import guidelines include:

Obtaining prior approval or a no-objection letter from the relevant technical authority

Providing a preliminary invoice with complete standard information

Submitting a conformity approval letter from the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization

Completing banking procedures and the Import Form (IM)

The minister stressed that no unloading of goods should occur unless all procedural requirements from relevant authorities are fully met.

Mahasen also affirmed the ministry’s efforts to streamline foreign trade procedures by moving to digital systems in coordination with related bodies through the “Baldna” platform. She urged importers to fully comply with these regulations to avoid processing delays, warning that the ministry will not be liable for any losses resulting from non-compliance.
