Agricultural Bank Agrees to Raise Salam Price to SDG 70,000 per Sack

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
Ghariq Kambal, Deputy Head of the Sudanese Farmers’ Association – Rain-fed Sector, announced the beginning of the rainy agricultural season in most states of Sudan.
In a statement to Al-Ahdath, Kambal warned of the potential failure of the season if government agencies delay in providing the necessary requirements.
He explained that so far, funding from the Agricultural Bank has been limited to diesel fuel in several states. He emphasized that diesel funding alone is insufficient for the success of the season, highlighting the urgent need for both cash funding and Salam financing, which he said depends on the availability of liquidity at the Agricultural Bank.
Kambal revealed that they submitted a proposal to the bank and are making arrangements to meet with Minister of Finance Dr. Jibril Ibrahim to resolve the issue and provide liquidity to the Agricultural Bank, enabling it to offer cash financing to farmers. He noted that negotiations had succeeded in raising the Salam price from SDG 56,000 to SDG 70,000 per sack, which has provided strong motivation for farmers to engage in agriculture. He also praised the quantities of diesel that have been made available so far and commended the Minister of Energy and Oil for his responsiveness to farmers’ requests for agricultural fuel, in addition to the Agricultural Bank’s role in fulfilling the required needs.
Regarding old Salam debts owed by farmers, Kambal revealed that the Agricultural Bank has agreed to accept a 20% repayment instead of 30%, in order to re-finance the farmers, confirming that this step will contribute to the success of the agricultural season.
