Implementation of the Chinese Grant Worth 210 Million Yuan for Water Projects

The Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Mohammed Bashar, announced the implementation of the previously pledged grant from the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sudan, amounting to 210 million yuan, in support of water stations in the states most in need of infrastructure to accommodate the return of displaced persons and refugees.

An agreement was reached between the two sides to allocate the entire grant—recently signed—towards providing solar energy equipment for water stations.

During his meeting on Sunday with Zhang Xianghua, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sudan, the Undersecretary affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to clear, transport, and install the equipment in the targeted states, namely Khartoum, Gezira, Sennar, and Blue Nile. The Chinese side committed to delivering the equipment to Port Sudan Port according to technical specifications to be determined by the Sudanese side within six months.

It is expected that the grant will provide equipment for more than 7,000 different stations to be installed over the course of a year by national teams in coordination with the relevant authorities.
