Civil defense forces in Atbara managed to contain a limited fire that broke out in the southern part of the old Atbara Secondary School, the location of the 2024 high school exam control center, without any damage to the examination papers.
The River Nile State security committee, led by the state governor and head of the security committee Dr. Mohamed Al-Badawi Abdel-Majid, confirmed the safety of the papers currently being processed and those stored in the warehouse.
The governor affirmed that all high school exam materials for 2024 were safe and announced that control center operations would resume on Thursday after implementing additional technical and security measures.
He also declared the formation of an investigation committee to determine the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Major General Salman Mohamed Al-Tayeb, Director of Police in River Nile State and Secretary of the state’s security committee, stated that the committee inspected the fire site, which affected an area containing damaged paper, cardboard, and empty envelopes. He added that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit from the power generator operating at the school.
The security committee had received reports from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Dr. Khalifa Hamad, Director General of Sudan’s Examinations Department Dr. Moatasem Ali Al-Sheikh, and the head of the civil defense forces that contained the fire.
