Former Importers’ Chamber Official Downplays Impact of Customs Dollar Reduction

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The former head of the Importers’ Chamber at the Chamber of Commerce, Hashem Al-Fadil, downplayed the effectiveness of the recent reduction in the customs dollar rate in a statement to Al-Ahdath.
The customs dollar saw a decrease of 87 Sudanese pounds, dropping from SDG 2,400 to SDG 2,313 according to the latest update issued by the customs system.
Al-Fadil justified his remarks by pointing to the minimal nature of the reduction compared to the previous increase, noting that the customs dollar was raised in July from SDG 2,000 to SDG 2,400, while the current reduction is only SDG 87. He added, “It increased by 20% but only decreased by 3.5%.”
