Minister of Agriculture Outlines Priorities

Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ismat Qureshi Abdullah said his foremost priority in the coming period is to make agriculture the driving engine of the Sudanese economy. He pledged to reactivate stalled projects, support small-scale farmers, localize seed production, and focus on agricultural research, forestry, and irrigation.

Speaking during the handover ceremony with outgoing minister Abu Bakr Al-Bushra in Port Sudan on Sunday, Qureshi commended his predecessor for delivering an exceptional farming season despite the challenges of war. He affirmed his determination to continue the work and improve performance to achieve the ministry’s goals.

Following the ceremony, the minister expressed appreciation for the efforts of the ministry’s various units. For his part, former minister and acting undersecretary Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bushra pledged to support the new minister in securing food for the Sudanese people.
