Dozens Arrested Over Usurious Transactions via “Bankak” App

The Prosecution Office for Unlawful and Suspicious Wealth has carried out a crackdown in Port Sudan, targeting individuals involved in cash-for-transfer schemes using mobile banking apps at interest rates deemed usurious.

A joint task force was formed, comprising members of the Central Criminal Investigation Department, local police, military intelligence, and the General Intelligence Service.

The operation led to the arrest of over 50 individuals suspected of engaging in illicit cash-for-transfer exchanges. Legal action was initiated against them at the Deem Arab Police Station.

The prosecution required all suspects to sign written pledges not to repeat such activities, after which they were released.

Upon completion of the legal procedures, Chief of Specialized Prosecutions Hassan Kabashi and Senior Prosecutor Babiker Mahmoud warned the detainees about the economic risks and legal and religious violations associated with such practices.
