The government of North Kordofan State accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of targeting Red Crescent volunteers in Jabra Al-Sheikh locality, resulting in injuries and the destruction of vehicles.
Earlier, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society reported that its Remains Management Team (responsible for safe and proper burial of bodies) in North Kordofan was hit by a projectile at its base in Al-Andaraba on Saturday. The attack injured team members and destroyed two vehicles bearing Red Crescent insignia, without assigning blame to any party.
Mohamed Ismail, the state’s Humanitarian Commissioner, condemned the RSF’s attack on the Red Crescent convoy in Al-Andaraba, roughly 70 kilometers west of Omdurman in Khartoum State, according to Sudan Tribune.
The commissioner explained that the attack targeted the Red Crescent team at the residence of the executive director in Al-Andaraba, after the convoy failed to reach any intended targets in Al-Obeid due to jamming systems.
The incident left ten Red Crescent volunteers injured and destroyed two vehicles belonging to the team, which was on a mission to collect and bury the bodies of RSF fighters resulting from battles in the Al-Andaraba area.
The Sudanese Red Crescent expressed regret over the incident and called for the protection of humanitarian workers, emphasizing that volunteers, staff, and organizational property must not be targeted.
