Diplomatic sources told Sudan Tribune that unofficial talks are underway to ease tensions between Sudan and the UAE through African mediation.
Both Sudan and the UAE conveyed concerns separately to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud last Wednesday. Sudan sent a message from Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan expressing Khartoum’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Mogadishu on counterterrorism and regional security.
Following the meeting, Abu Dhabi sent a high-level delegation led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan to Somalia to discuss expanding political, economic, and security cooperation. Sudanese sources noted that Mogadishu conveyed Khartoum’s concerns about the transfer of weapons and equipment through Bosaso Airport in Puntland to RSF-controlled areas in Nyala, South Darfur.
While preliminary, the talks reportedly conveyed Sudan’s information to the UAE representatives regarding their intervention.
