Sudanese Protests in London as Minnawi Calls to Lift Siege on El-Fasher

On Saturday, a large protest took place in London, where Sudanese nationals condemned the siege of Sudanese cities and called for the United Arab Emirates to be held accountable for fueling the war in Sudan.

The demonstration began outside the British Prime Minister’s office and proceeded to the UK Parliament, concluding in front of the Colombian Embassy to demand an end to the recruitment of Colombian mercenaries for the Sudanese conflict.

Abdulmajed Suleiman, Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs at the Darfur Union in the UK, emphasized that what is happening in El-Fasher, Kadugli, Dilling, and Al-Obeid is not merely battles but amounts to systematic genocide. He asserted that the RSF is committing these crimes with direct funding and weapons from the UAE and with the involvement of foreign mercenaries, including Colombians brought in to kill civilians.

Suleiman stressed that the UAE is a direct partner in these crimes and must be held accountable. He called for the immediate lifting of sieges on Sudanese cities, the opening of humanitarian corridors, and the designation of the RSF as a terrorist organization. He further warned that international silence amounts to complicity and affirmed that Sudanese people and global advocates stand united to say: “No to starvation, no to genocide, no to international silence.”

Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minnawi also called for an end to the siege of El-Fasher and other Sudanese cities, demanding that crimes against civilians cease, and urged the international community to hold accountable those fueling the war. Meanwhile, Information Minister Khalid Al-Issar highlighted the importance of amplifying the voices of Sudanese civilians still suffering under siege, famine, and systematic violence. Protesters called for urgent international action to halt the atrocities and criminalize the UAE for its role as financier and instigator of the war.
