Sudan’s mission to the United Nations dismissed the RSF government’s decision on Monday to appoint a representative to the UN, reaffirming that only the legitimate government chaired by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is recognized.
RSF Prime Minister Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Taishi appointed Qoni Mustafa Abubakr Sherif as Sudan’s permanent UN representative. However, Sudan’s UN envoy Ammar Mahmoud emphasized to Sudan Tribune that the UN recognizes only the legitimate government, including the Sovereignty Council under General Burhan, Prime Minister Dr. Kamel Idris, Foreign Minister Ambassador Omar Mohamed Ahmed Siddiq, and Permanent Representative Ambassador Al-Harith Idris.
At the highest levels, including the UN Security Council and Secretary-General, the UN has not recognized the parallel RSF government. Likewise, the African Union, through its Peace and Security Council, has not recognized the RSF’s parallel administration headquartered in Nyala, South Darfur.
