Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, a member of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the army, said the arrival of government forces in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, is approaching.
During a tour of forces in White Nile State, accompanied by the deputy intelligence chief and the commander of the Sudan Shield Forces, Abu Aqla Kikul, Al-Atta stated:
“We do not fear for our fighters in El-Fasher, but we are deeply concerned for the hundreds of thousands of civilians trapped there.”
He added: “We will soon reach the towns of Babnousa, Dilling, and Kadugli.”
Al-Atta further remarked that the strife caused by the war, ignited by “the ignorant and advocates of tribalism,” could have torn the nation apart were it not for divine mercy.
