Leni Kinzli, Head of Communications at the UN World Food Programme (WFP), said the war has turned Sudan into the world’s largest hunger crisis.
Speaking to Darfur 24, she revealed that about 3.6 million children under the age of five, along with pregnant and breastfeeding women, are suffering from severe forms of malnutrition. She described the figures as alarming, requiring both immediate therapeutic and preventive interventions.
Kinzli noted that El-Fasher, Kadugli, and Dilling are among the worst-affected areas, as they remain under siege or are extremely difficult to access.
She warned that “pregnant and breastfeeding women, children under five, the elderly, and persons with disabilities are the most at risk of dying from hunger or nutrition-related diseases.”
