Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris emphasized that leading the government is a means to ensure his country’s safety and stability, not a personal goal.
In an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya/Al Hadath, Idris said, “I hope the transitional period will be short, after which I will return to being an ordinary citizen.” He added that he would resign if the people demand it or if he feels disconnected from their concerns, affirming that “there is no room for failure in the plan we have set.”
He described attacks targeting vital facilities in Khartoum by the Rapid Support Forces as “desperate attempts following the army’s victory.” Idris clarified that he has not communicated with RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”) because he “does not hold the final key to resolving the crisis.”
The Prime Minister revealed that Khartoum International Airport will be fully operational within days with eight daily flights. “We will resume operations from Khartoum within two months,” he said.
Regarding the Sovereign Council, Idris said that “talk of its interference in civilian affairs fuels discord,” and confirmed that military-civilian coordination is ongoing to help the country overcome the crisis. On Al-Fashir, he said the government had “used all possible means to lift the siege” and criticized the international community for its inadequate support.
Idris also praised Saudi Arabia’s role in supporting Sudan and announced an upcoming visit to Riyadh. He said Egypt would continue to receive full cooperation from Sudan in recognition of its support, while describing the U.S. role as relatively weak but ongoing efforts are underway to improve relations.
