Champions League: Juventus Avoid Defeat in Thrilling 4-4 Draw with Dortmund

Super-sub Dušan Vlahović rescued Juventus from a rare home defeat to Borussia Dortmund, scoring twice after coming off the bench and setting up the stoppage-time equalizer in a pulsating 4-4 draw on Tuesday.

In a clash that revived memories of the fierce 1990s rivalry between the sides, Dortmund looked set to earn their first win in Turin since November 1995. That season, they had defeated Juventus 2-1 in the group stage before going on to claim their only Champions League title in 1997—ironically against the Italian giants in the final.

After a goalless first half, Dortmund took the lead three times, the last of which put them two goals clear. But Vlahović turned the tide, pulling one back and then teeing up Lloyd Kelly for the dramatic equalizer.

It was the first meeting between the clubs since the 2014/15 round of 16, when Juve prevailed home and away. The hosts started brightly, with Khéphren Thuram and Jonathan David both threatening in the first half, but Dortmund grew into the game and struck first through Karim Adeyemi early in the second half. Maximilian Beier had already hit the post moments earlier, while Juve goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio was kept busy denying further chances.
